Fractions, Food and more … Fractions!

Throughout the fractions unit students were asked to increase or decrease various recipes by certain factors to practice their skill of multiplying and dividing fractions. Yesterday, to round off the unit we went up to the foods lab where students made a recipe of their choice. The students said they felt like they were on an episode of MasterChef, where the time was tight and the expectations high. Students made taco spaghetti, Oreo cupcakes, sugar cookies and cheesecake.  We even had a group mix up their recipe and explode their red velvet cupcakes all over the oven, Ooops!

IMG_1942Not only was it a lesson in cooking and fractions, but students learned how to clean large and small messes and the importance of following directions.
