This month Laura Olson, Design Engineer at Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd., came in to work with our grade 8 students. Our students were working on their Rube Goldberg machines as their unit end project for Mechanical Systems. One of the aspects of the design process we emphasized in this project was how the students communicated their project through their drawings. Laura came in and gave a presentation on engineer drawings and the qualities that they look for. She was able to explain the sophistication of drawings and present it in a way that our students were able to understand.
Experiences with community experts is invaluable for our students. We saw significantly higher quality work because the students knew they had a professional they were also accountable to.
We are very grateful to Laura for taking the time out of her day to come and work with us!
Until next time,
